The Abu Dhabi United Group Investment & Development (ADUG), which purchased the English club in 2008, provided the hidden funding.
The total financial distortion during the 2009–2018 window exceeded £900 million, designed specifically to circumvent top-flight spending controls. During this exact span, Manchester City secured three Premier League titles, two FA Cups, and four League Cups. Richard Masters, the chief executive of the Premier League, described the disciplinary outcome and decision as the most significant in the history of the competition.
