Manchester Super Giants Defeat London Spirit by Seven Runs in The Hundred
The Manchester Super Giants secured a seven-run victory over the London Spirit in The Hundred cricket competition at Lord’s, holding off a late onslaught from home captain Liam Livingstone.
Tim Seifert Powers Super Giants to 138-9
Put in to bat first, the Super Giants endured a slow start when captain Aiden Markram fell lbw to Adam Milne for just one run off 10 balls. New Zealand international Tim Seifert anchored the innings, according to the official scorecard, striking 67 runs from 45 deliveries. Seifert added partnerships of 49 with Jos Buttler (16) and 40 with Heinrich Klaasen (17). The London Spirit bowling attack then fought back, restricting the lower order as the Super Giants lost seven wickets for 35 runs before finishing their 100 balls at 138-9. David Willey caught Seifert off the bowling of James Coles to claim the seventh wicket.
Liam Livingstone’s All-Round Effort Falls Short
Chasing 139 for victory, the London Spirit relied heavily on Livingstone after James Rew was dismissed for a two-ball duck. Livingstone built a 37-run partnership with Kiran Carlson (19) and a 68-run stand with Dewald Brevis. South Africa international Brevis contributed 22 runs from 23 balls before Gus Atkinson caught and bowled him in the penultimate set. Atkinson finished his spell with figures of 2-15.
Needing 12 runs from the final five balls, Livingstone faced England seamer Sonny Baker, who had previously conceded 25 runs from his first 15 deliveries. Having already struck five sixes, Livingstone looked to clear the boundary again, but the 23-year-old Baker held his nerve. Baker conceded just four runs in the final set, bowling Livingstone and having James Coles caught on the final delivery to seal the seven-run win for the Super Giants.
