Mantua Bomb Disposal: Operations Set for Sunday to Safely Detonate WWII-Era Ordnance
Mantua,Italy – A coordinated operation is scheduled to commence on Sunday,January 18th,at 7:00 AM local time to safely secure,transport,and detonate a 500-pound unexploded bomb discovered in the municipality of Castellucchio. The operation is being overseen by the Prefecture of Mantua, lead by prefect Roberto Bolognesi, and will involve specialized bomb disposal experts from the 10th Bomb Regiment of Engineers based in Cremona.
The device, believed to be a remnant of World War II, will be carefully defused at its revelation site before being transported to a designated detonation area in the municipality of Medole. Authorities are prioritizing public safety and have implemented a series of precautionary measures to protect residents during the operation.
A safety perimeter of approximately 826 meters (2,700 feet) will be established around the discovery site in Castellucchio, requiring the temporary evacuation of the affected area. Road traffic will be suspended in surrounding zones, and public order and safety services will be reinforced. A temporary no-fly zone will also be enforced over the operational area.
The planning meeting, chaired by Prefect Bolognesi, included representatives from local and regional police forces, the mayors of Castellucchio and Medole, the commander of the 10th Engineer Regiment, firefighters, regional and provincial authorities, Anas – Lombardy, and local police departments.
