Maple Leafs Snap Skid with 4-2 Victory Over Bruins
BOSTON (AP) — Matthew Knies scored two goals as the Toronto Maple Leafs ended a three-game losing streak with a 4-2 win against the Boston Bruins on Tuesday night. The victory avoided a season sweep by the Bruins in the Original Six rivalry.
Key Performances
In addition to Knies’ two goals, Max Domi and William Nylander also found the back of the net for Toronto. John Tavares contributed with three assists, leading the Maple Leafs to outshoot the Bruins 35-20. Anthony Stolarz secured the win with 18 saves.
Bruins Respond
Elias Lindholm and Charlie McAvoy scored for Boston, but it wasn’t enough to prevent the loss. Jeremy Swayman made 31 saves for the Bruins, who suffered only their second home defeat in their last 16 games. Boston maintains the top wild-card spot in the Eastern Conference standings.
Stolarz Stands Tall
Toronto goaltender Anthony Stolarz delivered a strong performance, particularly notable after returning to the net just three days after taking a puck to the throat during warm-ups, requiring a hospital visit as a precaution. He made crucial saves on Lindholm and Morgan Geekie to keep the game close.
Power Play Decides the Game
A major boarding penalty called against Boston’s Nikita Zadorov with 2:07 remaining in the second period proved pivotal. The ensuing 4-on-3 power play resulted in a goal by Domi, giving Toronto a 2-1 lead. Tavares, who was driven headfirst into the boards by Zadorov, assisted on the goal. McAvoy tied the game at 3-2 with a power-play goal in the third period, but Knies sealed the victory with an empty-net goal in the final seconds.
Bruins Add Draft Pick to AHL
The Bruins announced Monday they had signed 2025 first-round draft pick James Hagens from Boston College to an amateur tryout agreement and assigned him to Providence of the American Hockey League (AHL). Hagens was selected seventh overall in the 2025 draft.
Looking Ahead
The Bruins will visit Buffalo on Wednesday night, while the Maple Leafs will host the New York Rangers.
