Marc Giró on Recent Show, Potential Guests, and Political Commentary
Marc Giró is set to debut his new show, “Cara al Show,” on La Sexta at Atresmedia, following his departure from Televisión Española. In a recent interview on “Lo de Évole” with Jordi Évole, Giró discussed his move, potential guests, and his perspectives on Spanish politics.
Transition to Atresmedia
Giró explained his decision to join Atresmedia, stating he felt a connection with his new colleagues and appreciated the support for his show concept. He noted, “He confiado porque me han caído simpáticos, luego he entendido lo que me proponían… Luego vi que realmente querían el programa que hacía, en las condiciones que yo creía que debían hacerse.” He likewise acknowledged that his presence has already provoked reactions from both the left and the right, which he views positively, stating, “Que es exactamente donde yo quiero estar.”
Potential Guests and Isabel Díaz Ayuso
When asked about potential guests, Giró specifically addressed the possibility of Julio Iglesias, indicating a lack of strong interest. However, he expressed openness to hosting Isabel Díaz Ayuso, the President of the Community of Madrid, stating, “If she wanted to come, she’s invited. And she was already invited in TVE.” He clarified that he is not journalist Silvia Intxaurrondo, implying a different approach to interviewing her. He jokingly suggested a “Macedonia with fruit” rather than a Pictionary game with Ayuso, referencing her fondness for fruit as noted by Évole.
Commentary on Isabel Díaz Ayuso and the Media
Giró also reflected on the media’s role in Ayuso’s popularity, admitting to having created “a lot of gags” about her initially due to the fact that she seemed “very nice.” He compared this phenomenon to that of Esperanza Aguirre. He further suggested that Ayuso might be better suited to hosting a morning show than remaining in politics, drawing a parallel to Aguirre’s career path.
Challenges to Pedro Sánchez
During the interview, Giró issued a challenge to Pedro Sánchez, inviting him to appear on his new show on La Sexta.
Defense of Julio Iglesias by Isabel Díaz Ayuso
Isabel Díaz Ayuso has publicly defended singer Julio Iglesias following accusations of sexual abuse. She criticized what she perceived as silence from the “ultra-left” regarding women’s issues in Iran, stating that Madrid would not contribute to the disparagement of Iglesias (laSexta). Calls have been made by Más Madrid to revoke honors bestowed upon Iglesias, but the Mayor of Madrid, José Luis Martínez Almeida, has rejected these requests (laSexta).
Julio Iglesias Accusations
The accusations against Julio Iglesias stem from allegations made by two former employees – a domestic worker and a physiotherapist – detailing incidents of sexual abuse, harassment, and mistreatment in his Caribbean properties in 2021 (ESdiario). One former employee described feeling “like an object, like a slave in the 21st century,” alleging pressure for unwanted sexual encounters and physical and verbal abuse (ESdiario).
