Marion Maréchal Criticizes European Policies, Links Immigration to Jihadism at Atreju conference
Rome, Italy – December 13, 2025 – Marion Maréchal, a French Member of the european Parliament (MEP) affiliated with the Rassemblement National party and niece of Marine Le Pen, delivered a controversial speech at the Atreju conference in Rome. Her remarks centered on criticisms of current European policies and a strong stance against immigration.
Maréchal asserted that a left-leaning Europe has become overly reliant on external powers, characterizing the continent as “a kind of colony of Africa, a religious colony of Islam, an economic colony of China and a military colony of the United States.” She further criticized what she termed “Woke culture,” echoing common themes within right-wing political discourse that emphasize a perceived loss of customary European values.
A central claim of her address focused on the connection between non-European immigration and the rise of jihadism, stating that “France’s experience demonstrates that non-European immigration is the main source of jihadism.” This assertion reflects a viewpoint frequently expressed by far-right political figures and has been subject to extensive debate and scrutiny.
Maréchal’s speech aligns with her established political positions, which advocate for stricter immigration controls, national sovereignty, and a rejection of multiculturalism. The Atreju conference, organized by the Italian far-right Brothers of Italy party, serves as a platform for nationalist and conservative viewpoints.
