U.S. Marine Corps Deploys First On-Prem 5G Private Network
The U.S. Marine Corps has achieved a significant milestone in modernizing its logistics and industrial operations with the successful deployment of the first fully on-premises 5G Private Infrastructure Network (5G PIN) within the Department of War (DoW). This achievement, granted an Authority to Operate (ATO) on March 2, 2026, marks a pivotal step towards enhanced operational readiness and efficiency.
Revolutionizing Logistics at Marine Corps Logistics Base Albany
The pioneering 5G network is currently operational at Marine Corps Logistics Base Albany (MCLB) in Georgia, managed by Marine Corps Logistics Command (MARCORLOGCOM). This deployment is designed to spearhead the next generation of military logistics through industrial automation, facilitated by a partnership with Federated Wireless, JMA Wireless, and Hewlett Packard Enterprise.
Securing Mission-Critical Operations
The ATO confirms the 5G PIN meets the stringent performance, reliability, and cybersecurity standards mandated by the DoW and the U.S. Marine Corps Risk Management Framework (RMF). This ensures the network can securely integrate with existing Marine Corps systems whereas remaining under government control and locally hosted. The network is designed to support mission-critical logistics, sustainment, and industrial operations with a trusted and secure capability.
Key Capabilities of the 5G PIN
The 5G PIN delivers deterministic, low-latency, and highly reliable wireless connectivity tailored for industrial environments. This enables the seamless integration of:

A $6 million, 42-month sustainment contract, awarded to Federated Wireless and its partners, will ensure the continued operation and improvement of the 5G network. This builds upon an initial $16.2 million contract to deliver the commercial private 5G network covering one million square feet at the Albany hub .
Demonstrated Efficiency Gains
Prior to formalizing the pilot network, improvements in logistics efficiency were demonstrated, including:
- 98% accuracy in inventory reordering
- 65% increase in goods velocity
- 55% reduction in labor costs
