Mark Ruijl Poised to Grow Excelsior’s New Technical Director

Excelsior is reportedly set to appoint Mark Ruijl as their new technical director, according to De Telegraaf. The move comes amid a restructuring of the technical organization at Feyenoord, where Ruijl currently serves as a technical manager.

Feyenoord Restructuring Creates Opportunity

The potential switch to Excelsior is linked to changes within Feyenoord following the anticipated arrival of Kees van Wonderen as technical director. This reorganization is expected to alter the distribution of responsibilities at De Kuip, creating an opportunity for Ruijl to seek a new role.

AZ’s Interest in Excelsior’s Current Director

Currently, Niels van Duinen holds the position of technical director at Excelsior. However, he is a target for AZ, who are keen to secure his services. Negotiations between AZ and Excelsior are ongoing, with Excelsior reluctant to allow Van Duinen to depart mid-season, particularly as the club battles to maintain its position in the Eredivisie. AZ is expected to increase their offer to secure Van Duinen, who will play a key role in selecting the club’s next head coach.

Excelsior’s Contingency Plan

Should AZ and Excelsior reach an agreement regarding Van Duinen, Excelsior will then focus on securing Ruijl as his replacement. Ruijl is considered surplus to requirements at Feyenoord, making him an attractive candidate for the Kralingers. He previously held the position of technical director at FC Dordrecht.

Shared Roots for Potential Rivals

Both Van Duinen and Ruijl share a common background, being born in The Hague. This adds an interesting dynamic to the potential moves within the Eredivisie.
