Mary Guinan, Longtime Offaly Resident, Passes Away at 97
Mary Guinan (née Maloney), a resident of Russellspenn, Rath, Birr, Co. Offaly, and formerly of Ballybritt, Roscrea, Co. Tipperary, passed away peacefully on March 13th, 2026, at her son John’s residence, surrounded by family. She was 97 years old.
A Life Remembered
Born and raised in Tipperary, Mary Guinan lived a long and full life, deeply rooted in the communities of Offaly and Tipperary. She was predeceased by her parents, William and Mary Maloney, her husband, Tom Guinan, infant son Thomas, daughter Emby, daughter-in-law Veronica, and brothers Joe and Billy, and sister Chrissie Nixon.
Family and Legacy
Mary is survived by her daughter, Teresa Minnock (Dundalk), and son, John Guinan (Rath). She is also remembered by her sons-in-law, Sean Minnock and Pat Molloy, sisters Bridie Quegan (Killyon) and Peggy Guilfoyle (Killeen), grandchildren Sandra, Sarah, Laura, Shane, Ann Marie, Jonathan, Thomas, and Ciaran, great-grandchildren Jamie and Calum, brother-in-law George, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, neighbors, and friends.
Funeral Arrangements
Reposing will take place at Boyd’s Funeral Home, Birr (R42YF75) on Sunday, March 15th, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM. A Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, March 16th, at 11:00 AM in St. John’s Church, Rath. Following the Mass, Mary will be laid to rest with her husband, Tom, in St. James Cemetery, Eglish.
The family requests privacy at their home. Family flowers only are requested, with donations, if desired, to the Irish Cancer Society. The family expressed gratitude for the excellent care provided by the nurses and carers who attended to Mary in her final weeks.
