Maryland Gymnastics Heads to Towson for Quad Meet

COLLEGE PARK, MD – The Maryland gymnastics team will compete in a quad meet hosted by Towson University on Friday, March 13, 2026, facing Towson, George Washington, and the University of Pennsylvania. The competition is scheduled to begin at 6:00 p.m. ET and will be streamed on YouTube. Live updates will be available on X (formerly Twitter) at @TerpsGymnastics.

Setting the Stage

The Maryland Terrapins are currently ranked No. 23 nationally on floor and No. 24 on vault. This week, Maryland will participate in two meets: the quad meet at Towson and another quad meet at George Washington on Sunday, concluding their regular season competition.

Maryland achieved a season-high event score of 49.200 on beam on Saturday.

Sophomore Rayna Engelmayer won the beam title with a score of 9.875, marking a career best. Graduate student Josephine Kogler and sophomore Aine Reade tied for the floor title, both scoring 9.875 at Maryland’s last home meet of the season.

Head coach Brett Nelligan surpassed 300 career wins after Saturday’s quad meet.

Senior Maddie Komoroski has been nominated for the 2026 AAI Award, recognizing the most outstanding collegiate senior gymnast.

Maryland recorded its highest floor event score in program history against No. 17 Penn State on January 24 with a 49.575. This surpassed the previous program record of 49.550, set against Temple on March 10, 2000.

Taylor Rech and Maddie Komoroski were named Big Ten Gymnasts to Watch entering the season.

The Terrapins opened the 2026 season following their best NCAA Regional performance in program history, scoring a 196.825 and placing fourth in Session II of the NCAA Pennsylvania Regional last April.

Maryland’s roster includes 11 new faces, consisting of six freshmen and five transfers.

The Terrapins are led by head coach Brett Nelligan, who is in his 17th season with the program. Nelligan signed a contract extension through June 2030, announced in August by Jim Smith, Barry P. Gossett Director of Athletics.

Checking Out the Schedule

Maryland will conclude the regular season at the Big Ten Championships on March 20 before advancing to NCAA Regionals on April 1.

The Newcomers’ Impact

The Terps welcomed five transfers this past offseason, adding experience and talent to the team.

• Megan Bingham (from Bowling Green State University): A Second-Team All-Conference All-Around gymnast with a career-high score of 9.950 on beam.
• Aine Reade (from the University of New Hampshire): A First-Team All-Conference honoree and eight-time Conference Rookie of the Week, with a career-high 9.900 on floor.
• Chelsey Dennis (from Towson University): A First-Team All-Conference gymnast and two-time Conference Rookie Specialist of the Week, posting a career-high 9.900 on balance beam.
• Katrina Mendez-Abolnik (from Bowling Green State University): Achieved a career-high score of 9.900 on vault.
• Alexis Czarrunchick (from the University of Georgia): A state all-around runner-up in 2023.
