Czech Republic braces for job Losses

Mass layoffs are hitting the Czech Republic, with the Moravian-Silesian region expected to be the hardest hit. Approximately 750 people will lose their jobs in this region alone, while other areas will see layoffs in the hundreds or dozens, according to office spokesman František Bikár.

While specific companies haven’t been named, OKD has already announced the end of mining operations at the ČSM Mine in Stonava. This closure will result in 750 layoffs by the end of January, with another 150 positions eliminated after the coal treatment plant ceases operations on February 28.

Hartmann-Rico is also closing it’s plant in Havlíčková Brod in March, impacting around 200 workers. Czech Post is considering further reductions,perhaps eliminating over 2,000 jobs,including through its subsidiary Balíkovna. More details are available from Seznam Zpravy.
