Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC and El Paso Locomotive FC opened their 2026 seasons with a thrilling 2-2 draw at Southwest University Park on March 7, 2026. The match featured debut goals from Rubio Rubín for El Paso and a strong performance from the Switchbacks’ new signings.

Early Goals Set the Tone

The Switchbacks struck first in the 5th minute when Khori Bennett finished a clever back-heel after a corner kick delivered by Sam Williams. However, El Paso quickly responded with a goal from Rubio Rubín in the 21st minute, leveling the score.

Rubín Shines for El Paso, Switchbacks Respond

Rubín continued his impressive debut, scoring again in the 50th minute to give El Paso a 2-1 lead. The Switchbacks refused to concede, and Isaiah Foster headed in an equalizer in the 67th minute, assisted by another play initiated by Sam Williams.

Key Performances and Debuts

Rubio Rubín marked his debut for El Paso Locomotive FC with two goals, becoming the first player in club history to achieve this feat in his first match. Five other players similarly made their debuts for Los Locos: Alex Mendez, Abraham Romero, Jimmy Farkarlun, Daniel Gomez, and Diego Abitia. El Paso native Kenneth Hoban also made his first career start for the club, playing 83 minutes.
