Maui Jim released the Miona high-performance toric shield eyewear in September, adding a sixth model to its Aeono collection since joining the Kering Eyewear portfolio. Designed for athletes and outdoor enthusiasts, the performance eyewear features a wraparound frame that contours the face to protect eyes from wind and sunlight while maximizing peripheral vision.
Performance Design and Toric Shield Construction
The Miona centers its build around a toric shield engineered to match facial curves. According to product specifications, the dual-curvature lens design reduces peripheral distortion and broadens the field of view. To keep the frame secure during high-movement activities like running and training, Maui Jim integrated rubber nose pads and temple tips. The brand also crafted the lenses using up to 99% bio-based material, marking a first for the company and cutting down overall frame weight.
Optics and Prescription Options
Maui Jim equipped the Miona’s lenses with polarization, glare reduction, enhanced color expression, and broad High-Energy Visible (HEV) light protection alongside standard ultraviolet blocking. For low-glare or natural lighting conditions, the company offers a non-polarized model alongside the standard line. Athletes requiring vision correction can utilize a dedicated insert system to mount transparent prescription lenses inside the performance frame, combining corrective capabilities with outdoor eye protection.
Target Sports and Aeono Collection Context
The eyewear targets a broad range of outdoor pursuits, including trail running, road running, hiking, cycling, off-road riding, travel, and general outdoor training. The launch follows Maui Jim’s integration into Kering Eyewear, serving as the sixth release under the Aeono collection banner since the corporate transition.
