Maura Higgins secured her highest score yet on the United States television competition Dancing with the Stars, performing a tricolour-themed Paso Doble dedicated to Ireland during Dedication Night on ABC Television.

Rehearsals Rooted in Irish Pride

Because even though they can’t vote for me, I can still feel the love and support, even though we’re here thousands of miles away, the Longford woman continued.

She added that she missed her family and friends and wanted to make them proud while showing fighting Irish spirit. I can’t let Ireland down, that’s for sure. I’m so proud to show that real fighting Irish spirit. During rehearsals, Higgins received a message from Michael Flatley that read: Maura, the whole of Ireland is so proud of you. The Irish would say, ‘I’m allowed to do what I want in this dance!’ she joked to Ballas at the end of rehearsals.

A Surprise Message from Michael Flatley

Irish dancing champion Michael Flatley sent a recorded message to rehearsals stating that Ireland was proud of her and introducing Lucky Howard, a dancer from Lord of the Dance.

Higgins performed the Paso Doble to the Dropkick Murphys track “I’m Shipping Up to Boston” alongside Ballas and Howard, incorporating Irish stepdancing into the routine to earn a standing ovation from the studio audience.

High Praise From the Judges’ Table

Guest judge Kym Johnson awarded the routine a score of nine, telling Higgins she felt her love for Ireland in every move.

He did offer some technical advice, adding: Careful with your shoulder line and the Spanish line. Derek Hough awarded a nine and Carrie Ann Inaba scored the couple an eight, bringing Higgins’ total to 35 points out of 40.

A Shoutout Home and Double Elimination Ahead

Following the judges’ critique, Higgins thanked viewers watching the broadcast in Ireland, acknowledging support from fans who cannot cast votes in the American competition.

There were no eliminations during this episode, though producers announced a double elimination will take place next week.
