Mavericks Dominate Jazz as Klay Thompson Climbs 3-Point Leaderboard
DALLAS – Klay Thompson showcased his shooting prowess, matching his season-high with six 3-pointers and scoring a season-best 26 points, leading the Dallas Mavericks to a decisive 144-122 victory over the Utah jazz on thursday night. With this performance, Thompson surpassed Damian Lillard, moving into fourth place on the NBA’s all-time career 3-pointers list.
Thompson now boasts 2,809 career 3-pointers, trailing only Stephen Curry, James Harden, and Ray Allen (2,973). He shot efficiently, going 10-for-18 from the field, and also dished out a season-high six assists.
The Mavericks (16-26) were without rookie star Cooper Flagg, who suffered a left ankle sprain during Wednesday night’s loss to the Denver Nuggets. Despite his absence, Dallas delivered a strong offensive performance, setting season highs in both total points and 3-pointers made (19). They capitalized on facing a Jazz team that currently allows the most points (127.0) and 3-pointers (15.6) per game in the NBA.
Naji Marshall contributed 22 points to the Mavericks’ victory.
For the Utah Jazz (14-27), Brice Sensabaugh led the scoring with 27 points. Though, the jazz were hampered by the continued absence of their leading scorer, Lauri Markkanen, who missed his second consecutive game due to illness.
The Mavericks and Jazz will face off again on Saturday in Dallas.
