Red Bull Upgrades Transform Verstappen Season

Max Verstappen is back in the Formula 1 championship conversation after a major technical turnaround by Red Bull Racing. The Dutch driver opened the season with a car that suffered a deficit of a full second to the front of the grid, forcing him to fight in the midfield against Alpine, Haas, and Racing Bulls. Red Bull introduced a major upgrade package to the RB22 in Baku, addressing fundamental problems with the RB22 and allowing Verstappen to fight for race victories once again.

Verstappen finished second in Baku just two tenths behind George Russell before securing victories in Malaysia and Singapore. Former Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko stated that the Singapore weekend featured one of the best drives of the four-time world champion’s career. Marko revealed that Verstappen predicted his victory in Singapore three weeks before the race took place.

Antonelli Leads Standings Before Austin Grand Prix

Kimi Antonelli enters the United States Grand Prix in Austin with a lead in the standings, offering the young Italian his first chance to secure the 2026 drivers’ title. However, Ralf Schumacher noted that the resurgence of Red Bull and Verstappen will make it difficult for Antonelli to clinch the championship early or secure victories in upcoming races like Mexico. Schumacher highlighted Antonelli’s mature driving in Singapore, where the Mercedes driver capitalized on a battle between Lando Norris and Lewis Hamilton to finish third. Looking further ahead, Marko expects Verstappen to mount a full championship challenge in 2027 against Antonelli. Mercedes technical figures note that the gap between competitors has tightened considerably. While Mercedes won the first six grands prix under the 2026 technical regulations, subsequent upgrades from Ferrari, McLaren, and Red Bull eroded their performance advantage. Four different teams have now claimed multiple victories in a single season for only the second time since 1990.
