Ravens-Raiders Blockbuster Trade Falls Apart: Maxx Crosby’s Failed Physical Scuttles Deal

The Las Vegas Raiders announced Tuesday night that the highly anticipated trade sending star pass rusher Maxx Crosby to the Baltimore Ravens has fallen through. Baltimore backed out of the agreement, which would have sent Crosby to the Ravens in exchange for two first-round draft picks, according to the Raiders.

Physical Exam Reveals Issue

A person with knowledge of the Ravens’ decision told the Associated Press that Crosby failed his physical. ESPN and NFL Network confirmed the news. Crosby underwent surgery in January to repair a torn meniscus in his left knee, sidelining him for the final two games of the 2025 season despite his desire to play through the injury.

Agent Disputes Severity

Despite the failed physical, Crosby’s agent, CJ LaBoy, posted on social media Tuesday night stating that Crosby’s recovery is progressing well under the care of Dr. Neal ElAttrache. LaBoy asserted that Crosby is “ahead of schedule” and remains on track to return during the offseason program, expecting to continue his performance as a “dominant game wrecker.”

Impact on Both Teams

The trade’s collapse significantly impacts both franchises. The Ravens were looking to bolster their pass rush, which finished tied for 28th in the league with only 30 sacks in 2025, and Crosby was expected to be a key addition. Baltimore lost several free agents recently, including center Tyler Linderbaum to the Raiders.

Raiders Remain Active in Free Agency

The Raiders, holding the No. 1 overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft, are widely expected to select Indiana quarterback Fernando Mendoza. Despite the failed Crosby trade, Las Vegas has been aggressive in free agency, agreeing to deals with multiple players and acquiring Linderbaum, who signed a three-year, $81 million contract with $60 million guaranteed.

Future for Crosby

The Raiders’ willingness to move on from Crosby, despite his talent, suggests a potential willingness to explore further trade opportunities. However, replicating the initial offer from the Ravens may prove demanding, particularly given Crosby’s recent injury history. The relationship between Crosby and the Raiders organization appears strained, making a continued partnership unlikely.
