McGill Athletes of the Week – January 19, 2026
MONTREAL – The basketball player Lily Rose Chatila from Quebec City, and the hockey player Igor Mburanumwe from Chambly, Quebec, are the McGill University Athletes of the Week, presented by Poulet Rouge restaurant, for the period ending January 18, 2026.
Chatila, a 22-year-old third-year anatomical sciences and cell biology student, scored 47 points and grabbed five rebounds as the McGill Martlets split two games against Concordia last week, losing 80-73 at home (January 15) and winning 62-51 on the road (January 17). She scored 33 of her points in Saturday’s win over the Stingers, marking just the sixth time in school history that a Martlets player has scored 33 or more points, and the first time in 18 years. The 5-foot-7 guard played an average of 33.5 minutes over the two games and was also credited with six assists, three rebounds and one steal.Coming from Dawson College, she made 38.1% of her shots (16/42), 2 of 15 three-pointers and 76.5% of her free throws (13 of 17).
Mburanumwe, a 6-foot-5, 216-pound defenseman, scored two goals in two games as the McGill Redbirds split their two games last week, beating Queen’s 4-2 (January 16) after a 5-4 overtime loss at UQTR (January 14). The 22-year-old second-year arts student scored in every game and took his regular season total to 3-4-7 in 20 games. He was drafted into the QMJHL in 2024, were he patrolled the blue line for Acadie-Bathurst (2023-24) and Victoriaville (2020-2023), winning the league’s President Cup championship in his first year.
