Measles Exposure in Southern Manitoba: 9 Locations Alerted

Public may have been exposed to measles at 9 locations across southern Manitoba, health officials say

Health centre waiting room, pizza restaurant among string of exposure sites in Brandon

Manitoba health officials say members of the public may have been exposed to measles at multiple sites across southern Manitoba — including four locations in Brandon — over the last few weeks.

Those who were at the Oak Bluff Recreation Club ice rink in Oak Bluff on Jan. 31 between 11 a.m. and 3:45 p.m. should watch for symptoms until Feb. 22.

If you were at Greenvalley Equipment in Stanley on Feb. 2 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., you should monitor until Feb. 24. If you were there on Feb. 5 between 8 a.m. to 3:15 p.m., you should watch for symptoms until Feb. 27, officials said.

Anyone who was at Caisse Financial Group in Notre-Dame-de-Lourdes on Feb. 3 from 2 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. is encouraged to monitor until Feb. 25.

There were several possible exposures in the emergency department waiting room at the Brandon Regional Health Centre last week. If you were there at the following times, you are asked to monitor for symptoms until the specified date:

• Feb. 5 from 10:45 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. Monitor symptoms until Feb. 27.
• Feb. 5 from 7:05 p.m. to 11:15 p.m. Monitor symptoms until Feb. 27.
• Feb. 6 from 8:15 a.m. to 6:45 p.m. Monitor symptoms until Feb. 28.
• Feb. 6 from 7:15 p.m. to Feb. 7 at 2:45 a.m. For the Feb. 6 exposure, monitor symptoms until Feb. 28. For the Feb. 7 exposure, monitor symptoms until March 1.

If you were at the Brandon University Healthy Living Centre on Feb. 5 between 7 p.m. to 10:30 p.m., please monitor for symptoms until Feb. 27.

Anyone who was at the Boston Pizza on Richmond Avenue in Brandon on Feb. 5 from 8:30 p.m. to 11:45 p.m. is asked to watch for symptoms until Feb. 27.

People who went to the Corral Centre Liquor Mart in Brandon on Feb. 5 between 6:30 p.m. to 8:45 p.m. should monitor for symptoms until Feb. 27.

If you were at McMunn & Yates Building Supplies in Portage la Prairie on the following dates and times, you are asked to monitor for symptoms until the specified date:

• Feb. 2 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monitor for symptoms until Feb. 24.
• Feb. 3 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monitor for symptoms until Feb. 25.
• Feb. 5 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monitor for symptoms until Feb. 27.

When monitoring for symptoms, keep an eye out for fever, runny nose, drowsiness, red eyes, small white spots on the inside of the mouth or throat, and a red skin rash. Symptoms generally appear within a week to three weeks after exposure.

The province is encouraging anyone who may have been exposed to measles to check their immunization records and ensure their vaccines are up to date.
