The Ministry of Health of Mexico City confirmed the death of a child under 14 months of age associated with the measles outbreak, a case that occurred in December 2025during the Christmas season.
The capital authorities reported that the cause of the minor’s death was officially certified until this Tuesday, February 10, after developing the corresponding epidemiological process.
The Secretary of Health, Nadine Gasman Zylbermannexplained that the death was not reported at the time because the measles did not initially appear as cause of death in the certificate, so it was necessary to complete the studies and technical opinions before incorporating it into the official record.
Similarly, Gasman Zylbermann explained that this procedure is applied when the cause is not immediately identified.
The official specified that the process concluded days before the information was made public, which made it possible to confirm the link between the death and measles and update the epidemiological report of CDMX.
So far, there are 184 confirmed cases of measles in CDMX, of which 140 are considered active from an epidemiological point of view. There were also 14 hospitalizations and one death reported, corresponding to a child under 14 months old.
The official explained that a portion of the diagnosed measles cases correspond to people from the State of Mexico who received medical attention in the capital, a situation that maintains active epidemiological surveillance in different areas of the city.
8-year-old boy dies from measles in Durango
In parallel, on February 10, 2026, the Department of Health of the State of Durango confirmed the death of a child under 8 years of age due to complications associated with the measles outbreak; This is the first death recorded from this disease in the entity.
The local Secretary of Health, Moisés Nájera Torresreported that the minor was admitted the day before to the Maternal and Child Hospital in serious condition, with a confirmed diagnosis of measles through studies carried out at the state laboratory.
According to the secretary, the child was originally from municipality of El Mezquital and he was initially treated in a medical unit, from where it was decided to transfer him due to the worsening of his clinical condition.
Nájera Torres explained that the minor had comorbidities and an advanced condition of the disease, which led to his death hours after his hospital admission.
The official pointed out that the minor’s family is dedicated to day labor and that he had previously traveled to Sinaloa, where the infection allegedly occurred, before returning to Durango.
After confirming the case, the Durango Health Secretariat reiterated the call to the population to get vaccinated and assured that there is a sufficient supply of measles vaccines in the entity, both double viral and triple viral.
