Medalla Light to be Official Beer of World Baseball Classic’s First Round in San Juan

Medalla Light has been named the official beer of the first round of the 2026 World Baseball Classic, which will be hosted in San Juan, Puerto Rico. The games will take place from March 6-11 at Estadio Hiram Bithorn , making Puerto Rico a key venue for the international sporting event.

A Celebration of Puerto Rican Baseball

Cervecera de Puerto Rico expressed its pride in Medalla Light’s involvement with the World Baseball Classic. Kelvin García Báez, Marketing Manager of Medalla Light, stated that the sponsorship is more than just a commercial partnership; it’s a celebration of Puerto Rico’s sports history, its baseball players, and the passion of its fans.

Special Edition Can and Fan Experiences

To commemorate the event, Medalla Light will release a special edition can featuring the World Baseball Classic branding. This limited-edition can will serve as a symbol of national pride and support for baseball in Puerto Rico.

The brand will also offer exclusive activations both inside and outside Estadio Hiram Bithorn, designed to enhance the fan experience and connect with consumers.

A Legacy Rooted in Sports

Medalla Light’s connection to sports dates back to its origins. The brand’s name was inspired by the 21 medals won by the Puerto Rican delegation at the 1979 Pan American Games, honoring the achievements of Puerto Rican athletes. The company continues to build on this legacy by supporting platforms that showcase national pride.

Puerto Rico’s Passion for Baseball

García Báez emphasized that Medalla Light’s alliance with the World Baseball Classic reaffirms its identity as the beer of Puerto Ricans, celebrating baseball, its fans, and the values of unity, pride, and sportsmanship. He concluded by stating that when Puerto Rico competes, it demonstrates its greatness and passion on the world stage.

Puerto Rico’s 2026 WBC Team

Puerto Rico will host Pool A of the 2026 World Baseball Classic, facing Cuba, Canada, Panama, and Colombia. The team features six all-stars, led by Nolan Arenado, despite the absence of key players like Francisco Lindor, Carlos Correa, and Javier Baez due to insurance coverage issues. Edwin Díaz, who recovered from a patellar tendon injury, and Heliot Ramos, with back-to-back 20-homer seasons, are also key players. Righthander Elmer Rodriguez, ranked as Baseball America’s No. 59 prospect, adds to the team’s pitching depth.
