Rising regional demand for high-level heart care drove the multi-million-dollar infrastructure initiative, according to Medical City Heart Hospital statements. The overarching development adds three floors to the existing physical plant, expanding total facility space by more than 60,000 square feet. This footprint increase accommodates over 60 new patient beds dedicated to intensive and advanced care.
At the center of the project stands a new 28-bed cardiovascular intensive care unit. According to hospital reports, these ICU beds feature specialized equipment for extracorporeal membrane oxygenation, commonly known as ECMO. This advanced life support intervention oxygenates blood outside the body for patients experiencing severe cardiac or respiratory failure, giving damaged heart and lung tissues time to rest and recover.
Advanced Technology and Future Growth Capacity
Beyond the immediate intensive care additions, the capital project incorporates shell space designated for future progressive care beds. These specialized patient beds adapt to shifting clinical needs as individuals transition through various recovery phases. Medical City Heart Hospital itself opened in 2019 as a full-service acute care hospital featuring 63 beds.
