The Argentine secured his first top-10 win of the season against the former world number one. Medvedev had previously eliminated Carlos Alcaraz in the Indian Wells semi-finals, ending Alcaraz’s 16-0 start to the 2026 season as reported by the ATP Tour.

Sinner Pursues Sunshine Double
With Medvedev’s elimination, Jannik Sinner remains on track to potentially complete the “Sunshine Double,” winning both the Indian Wells and Miami Open titles in the same year. Sinner won the Indian Wells title earlier in March. Medvedev commented that completing the Sunshine Double is “perhaps more difficult than winning a Grand Slam title” according to Tennis Italiano.
