Mehdi Chaoui Makes History with Triton Jeju Turbo Victory

Mehdi Chaoui achieved a significant win at the Triton Super High Roller Series in Jeju, taking first place in Event #9, a $30,000 turbo tournament. The Moroccan player secured a prize of $747,000, the largest of his career to date.

A Significant Victory for Moroccan Poker

At 25 years old, Chaoui became the first Moroccan player to win a title on the Triton circuit. This victory holds symbolic importance as it occurred during the 250th event in the series’ history. The tournament attracted 99 entries, generating a total prize pool of $2.97 million.

A Tournament Under High Pressure

Consistent with the turbo format, the tournament structure quickly reduced the chip stacks, placing most players in a short-stack situation as the final tables approached. With shallow stacks, all-in confrontations occurred frequently. As the bubble neared, key eliminations shifted the dynamics, notably the elimination of Mustapha Kanit following a crucial hand against Daniel Rezaei.

Chaoui navigated this volatile environment effectively, employing a successful strategy in the frequent all-in situations typical of this structure. The final table included notable players such as Seth Davies and Alex Foxen, but the speedy-paced action left little room for maneuvering.

Chaoui gained a decisive advantage after winning a key pot with Q-10 against the A-Q of Nguyen Le, allowing him to consolidate his stack and take the lead.

The heads-up match against Le concluded swiftly. On the final hand, Le went all-in with 10-9, and Chaoui called with A-5. Chaoui hit a pair, securing the victory.
