Mei Semones Announces New EP ‘Kurage’ and Shares John Roseboro Collaboration “Tooth Fairy”
Brooklyn-based guitarist and songwriter Mei Semones is set to release her new EP, Kurage, on April 10, 2026, via Bayonet Records. Following the release of the single “Koneko” featuring Liana Flores, Semones has now shared another track from the upcoming EP, “Tooth Fairy,” a collaboration with John Roseboro.
The Story Behind “Tooth Fairy”
Semones shared the inspiration behind the song, explaining that it stemmed from a chance encounter with Roseboro. “This song is about a day I was meeting John Roseboro at his friends’ bookstore,” she said. “I got off the train in Greenpoint and we happened to have been on the same train, and we ran into each other on the platform. He smiled and told me his tooth had just fallen out, and held out his hand to show me. So I was inspired to write a song about that and our friendship.”
Musical Details and Band Collaboration
Musically, Semones cites Guinga as an influence, specifically mentioning the arpeggiated guitar chords as a key element of the song. The track features Semones’ band, including Noam Tanzer on bass, Ransom McCafferty on drums, Claudius Agrippa on violin, and Noah Leong on viola. Semones highlighted how each musician’s contribution created a “delightful, seamless flourish.”
Music Video and EP Release
A music video for “Tooth Fairy,” directed by Jacob Rodier, accompanies the song’s release. Kurage is available for pre-order now on Bandcamp, with one track available for immediate streaming and download. The EP will be released digitally on April 10, 2026, and a plushie is also available for purchase with the digital album.
