Meitetsu Grand Hotel Nagoya to Partially Continue Operations Amid Redevelopment

Nagoya, Japan – The Meitetsu Grand Hotel in Nagoya will continue operating select facilities despite ongoing redevelopment plans in the Nagoya Station area. The decision comes following schedule adjustments and a re-evaluation of the initial redevelopment project as reported on March 15, 2026.

Facilities Remaining Operational

The following hotel facilities will remain in operation:

  • Accommodation services
  • Breakfast and lunch service at the “Casual Dining Iris” restaurant
  • Lunch and dinner service at “Beijing Court Cuisine Kanmeihou”
  • Daytime and bar service at “Sky Lounge 203”

Facilities Ceasing Operations

Effective after March 22, the following facilities will cease operations:

  • Banquet halls on the 11th and 12th floors
  • Dinner service at “Casual Dining Iris”
  • The Japanese restaurant “Shiki”

Nagoya Station Area Redevelopment Project

The changes at the Meitetsu Grand Hotel are linked to a larger redevelopment project encompassing the Meitetsu Nagoya Station area. This project, covering 520,000 square meters, is slated to begin construction in 2027 according to details released by Nagoya Railroad (Meitetsu).

The redevelopment includes increasing the number of tracks at Meitetsu Nagoya Station from two to four, with dedicated platforms for trains serving Chubu Centrair Airport. Six existing buildings, including the Meitetsu Department Store, Meitetsu Grand Hotel, and Meitetsu Bus Terminal, will be demolished in 2026 to make way for two new mixed-use skyscrapers.

Project Delays and Re-evaluation

The Nagoya Railroad announced in December 2025 that it would re-examine and review the “Nagoya Station Area Redevelopment Plan” and “Meitetsu Nagoya Station Redevelopment Plan” due to a withdrawn bid during the construction bidding process. This withdrawal is expected to significantly increase both the estimated construction cost and the project timeline. The start and completion dates for both plans are currently undetermined.

The Meitetsu Department Store Main Store is still scheduled to close on February 28, 2026.
