Married at First Sight’s Mel Schilling Reveals Terminal Cancer Diagnosis
Mel Schilling, a familiar face as a relationship expert on both the Australian and UK versions of Married at First Sight, has shared the devastating news that her cancer is terminal. The announcement comes just weeks after she revealed she was stepping down from the Australian series to prioritize her health.
Initial Diagnosis and Treatment
Schilling was initially diagnosed with colon cancer in December 2023 after a tumor was discovered during a scan. The tumor was successfully removed, and she was initially given a clean bill of health. However, a few months later, the cancer returned, spreading to her lungs. She underwent 16 rounds of chemotherapy and was later deemed eligible for a clinical trial set to initiate in March 2026.
Cancer Spreads to the Brain
Despite initial optimism surrounding the clinical trial, Schilling experienced blinding headaches and numbness in December 2025. Subsequent tests revealed the cancer had spread to the left side of her brain. Despite undergoing radiotherapy, her oncology team has informed her that there are no further treatment options available.
“I honestly don’t know how long I have left,” Schilling wrote in an Instagram post on Friday, March 13, 2026. “But I do know I will fight to my last breath and will be surrounded by the love and support of my people.”
Departure from Married at First Sight
Schilling announced her departure from Married at First Sight Australia in February 2026, citing health challenges and the demands of traveling between Australia and the UK, where she lives with her husband and daughter. She will continue her work on Married at First Sight UK.

Nine Entertainment, the network that broadcasts Married at First Sight, released a statement expressing their sadness and support for Schilling. “Mel is a woman of extraordinary depth, kindness, and an unshakeable spirit,” the statement read. “She isn’t just a colleague. she is family.
