Kansas State Men’s Golf Set to Compete at Michael A. Marino Classic

MYRTLE BEACH, SC – The Kansas State men’s golf team continues its spring season this weekend at the Michael A. Marino Classic, hosted by Coastal Carolina at the Dunes Golf and Beach Club in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, from Sunday, March 15, through Tuesday, March 17, 2026.

Coming off a tie for 12th place at the Colleton River Collegiate, the Wildcats are making their first appearance in Myrtle Beach since March 2004.

Strong Competition Expected

K-State will face a challenging 15-team field, including four teams ranked in the top 50 of the latest National Collegiate Golf Rankings: No. 33 Louisville, No. 37 UNLV, No. 47 University of Arkansas at Little Rock, and No. 50 Florida Gulf Coast University . The remaining teams competing are Baylor, Coastal Carolina (the host school), College of Charleston, Furman, Kent State, Liberty, Louisiana, Michigan, Missouri, North Carolina State, and North Florida.

Wildcat Lineup

For the third consecutive event, the Wildcats will field a lineup consisting of seniors Alex Lindstrom and JP Roller, sophomore Fionn Dobbin, and freshmen Oliver Toyer and Ville Virkkala.

Player Spotlight

Lindstrom and Virkkala currently lead the team in scoring average, with marks of 72.63 and 72.89, respectively. Lindstrom, a native of Halmstad, Sweden, has recorded two top-20 finishes this season, including a tie for first place at the Git-R-Done Invitational in September. Virkkala, from Espoo, Finland, has also earned three top-20 finishes and led K-State at the Colleton River Collegiate, tying for 28th place at 1-over par 217.

Freshman Oliver Toyer holds a season scoring average of 73.63 and will be participating in his fourth straight event. He is tied with Lindstrom for the team lead with six under-par rounds this season. Sophomore Fionn Dobbin enters his eighth event of the campaign with a 74.05 scoring average, whereas fifth-year senior JP Roller maintains a career average of 73.57 across his time at Texas Tech and K-State.
