Meta Ireland to Reduce Workforce Amid AI Integration
Approximately 15 positions at Meta Ireland are at risk of redundancy as the company continues to restructure its operations to prioritize artificial intelligence (AI) development, and implementation. The cuts are not related to broader, previously reported global layoff plans affecting up to 20% of the company’s workforce, which Meta has described as “speculative.”
AI Driving Organizational Changes
The job reductions stem from organizational changes already underway, linked to Meta’s increasing focus on AI. According to a Meta spokesperson, “Teams across Meta regularly restructure or implement changes to ensure they’re in the best position to achieve their goals.” The company stated it will attempt to find alternative roles for impacted employees where possible.
Meta’s Presence in Ireland
Meta employs around 1,800 people in Ireland, with its international headquarters located in Ballsbridge, Dublin. The company opened its new Dublin campus in October 2023, also maintaining sites in Meath and Cork.
Recent Redundancies at Meta Ireland
This is not the first round of job cuts at Meta’s Irish operations. In January 2023, the company announced redundancies impacting around 5% of its “lowest performing” staff globally, affecting Irish-based employees. Prior to this, approximately 840 jobs were cut in Ireland in November 2022 and May 2023.
Zuckerberg’s Vision for AI at Meta
Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has emphasized the transformative role of AI within the company. In January, he stated that 2026 would be a pivotal year for AI integration, with investments in AI tools expected to “flatten teams” and enable more efficient project completion. Zuckerberg noted that projects previously requiring large teams could be accomplished by single, highly skilled individuals.
