Mexico’s Outreach to its Community in Italy: A Day of Health, Prevention, and Wellbeing
On Saturday, March 14, 2026, the Embassy of Mexico in Italy, in collaboration with the Fondazione Policlinico Universitario Agostino Gemelli IRCCS, Telefono Rosa, Arcigay Roma, Gay Center, Roma Check Point, Borgheresi Studio Legale, Tulsi Yoga and Studio Odontoiatrico Cozzolino, hosted the first Integral Day of Health, Prevention and Wellbeing dedicated to the Mexican community residing in Italy. The event, held at Vía Lazzaro Spallanzani 16, Rome, marked a significant step in providing comprehensive support and resources to Mexican citizens in the country, particularly women.
A Collaborative Initiative
The initiative stemmed from an agreement signed on January 20, 2026, between the Embassy and the Fondazione Policlinico Universitario “Agostino Gemelli” IRCCS. This partnership aims to strengthen cooperation in health, prevention, and wellbeing, creating a collaborative framework to serve the Mexican community. The event was timed to coincide with activities commemorating International Women’s Day, highlighting a commitment to the health and welfare of women within the community.
Services Offered
The Integral Day offered a wide range of services and activities, including:
- Preventive Medical Services: Blood pressure monitoring, body mass index assessment, blood sugar checks, cholesterol screening, and color Doppler ultrasound of the neck vessels (as deemed necessary by medical professionals).
- Breast Health: Breast ultrasounds were provided to promote early diagnosis and prevention.
- First Aid Training: Participants had the opportunity to learn essential first aid skills.
- Information and Orientation: Modules covered prevention, sexual health, gender violence, legal advice, support for the LGBT+ community, and preventive dentistry.
- Wellness Activities: Yoga sessions for adults and children, along with Zumba classes, promoted physical and emotional wellbeing.
Inaugural Conference and Key Areas
The day began with an inaugural conference on “Longevity – Gemini,” focusing on healthy aging and quality of life. A central component of the event was the Comprehensive Prevention Area, offering basic health assessments and guidance on adopting healthy habits. The initiative emphasized inclusivity and sensitivity, particularly towards women and vulnerable populations.
Embassy’s Commitment
The Mexican Embassy in Italy emphasized its commitment to “proximity diplomacy with a humanist approach in Mexican foreign policy,” underscoring the importance of continued collaboration with specialized institutions and civil society organizations to enhance comprehensive and preventive assistance for the Mexican community in Italy.
