Michael Carrick Apologises After Manchester United Loss to Como
Manchester United manager Michael Carrick apologised to travelling supporters after a 4-1 defeat against Como in the Champions League extended the club’s winless run to seven matches. Carrick described the performance in Italy as unacceptable and stated that he takes total responsibility for the team’s struggles as the season reaches a new low.
The defeat in Italy marks United’s fifth loss across all competitions this current season.
Michael Carrick Accepts Total Responsibility for Team Performance
I care an unbelievable amount about the supporters. They are the heartbeat of this football club and they always will be,
Carrick told reporters after the match. For them to travel, I had to apologise for the performance. To have to watch a performance like that, I totally feel for them.
The loss leaves United with only one victory in league play and follows an early exit from the English League Cup. Carrick’s managerial future faces growing scrutiny following the result, arriving only months after he signed a two-year contract extension.
It was more than disappointing. I think everybody has got to take responsibility for that,
Carrick added. I 100% take responsibility for the overall team and the performance — that’s where it stops. It stops with me and I’m absolutely fine with that. I accept that totally.

Match Statistics and Goalscorers in Italy
Como secured the victory behind a dominant offensive display. Nico Paz scored twice for the hosts, while Tasos Douvikas and Jacobo Ramon added goals to round out the scoring.
Substitute Joshua Zirkzee scored the lone goal for Manchester United as a consolation. It was nowhere near good enough in so many ways. We didn’t deserve to get anything from the game,
Carrick said.
