Microsoft is rolling out a deeper integration between Windows 11 and Android devices in its autumn software update, allowing users to manage phone functions directly from their desktop without reaching for their hardware, MobilMania.cz reported.

Windows 11 Phone Link Integration Details

The updated Phone Link feature brings the connected phone panel directly into the Windows 11 Start menu for users. From this interface, people can read and reply to text messages, check call history, browse mobile photo galleries, and transfer files via a drag-and-drop window.

Mobile applications now open in separate floating windows with adjustable sizes, moving beyond previous desktop limitations. Incoming messages appear in standalone floating windows on the computer screen, while phone calls route through notifications in the bottom taskbar. Users can also ring a misplaced phone or toggle silent mode directly from the quick settings panel in the bottom-right corner of the desktop.

File Explorer and Resume Features

Android devices now function as direct directories within the Windows 11 File Explorer. Users can browse mobile folders, copy items, and move files just as they would on a local hard drive. When a user takes a photo on their phone, a desktop notification appears that opens the image with a single click.

Microsoft is also expanding the availability of its Resume feature to standard Windows 11 users following a prolonged testing period. This function lets users pick up on their computer where they left off in mobile activities and applications.

Rollout Timeline and Device Support

Microsoft has not announced a precise date for the full deployment of these features, nor has it released a complete list of supported devices. The updates are reaching users gradually through standard Windows 11 system updates and the Phone Link application, meaning full compatibility across all specific phone and computer models will take time to deploy.
