Midland-area high school volleyball teams navigated demanding tournament schedules over the weekend, highlighted by the Midland High Lady Bulldogs winning the Championship Ruby Bracket at the Northwest ISD Tournament in Northlake.
Midland High Claims Northwest ISD Ruby Bracket Title
According to tournament results, Midland High finished with a 2-0 record on Saturday to capture the Ruby Bracket championship, placing 13th overall in a competitive 32-team field. The Lady Bulldogs opened Saturday action with a three-set victory over Prosper Walnut Grove, winning 25-18, 27-29, 25-15. They followed with another grueling three-set battle against Lucas Lovejoy, prevailing 29-30, 25-22, 25-16.
Statistically, Midland High (9-5) relied on balanced contributions across the court. LaneyKate Johnston anchored the net defense by combining for 14.5 blocks across the two matches. Offensively and defensively, Halle Cumbie tallied 28 kills and 20 digs, while Victoria Azarov added 27 kills and 23 digs. Paisley Eaton patrolled the back row with 33 digs, and setters Haylee Davis and Zaylie King distributed 42 and 36 assists, respectively. The Lady Bulldogs advance to face Brenham, Schulenburg, and Weimar at the Legends Invitational on Thursday in Bryan.
Midland Lee Wraps Up Granbury Tournament
In Granbury, the Midland Lee volleyball team closed its three-day tournament with a 1-2 record on Saturday, bringing its overall tournament mark to 4-5. The Lady Rebels (8-12) opened the day with a 25-16, 25-20 loss to Richland, rebounded to defeat Fort Worth Paschal 25-16, 25-19, and concluded with a 25-16, 25-19 defeat against North Richland Hills Birdville.
Isabella Aguilar led the defensive effort with 35 digs over the three matches. Olivia Ramirez contributed 30 assists, 20 digs, and four aces, while Austin Moses paced the attack with a team-high 12 kills. Mylie Herrera chipped in 24 digs, and Amy Herrera added 21 assists. Midland Lee returns home to host Hereford on Tuesday.
Midland Classical Finishes Third at Rose Magers Tournament
Midland Classical secured a third-place finish at the Rose Magers Tournament after posting a 2-1 record on Saturday. The Lady Knights (9-4-1) swept McCamey 25-15, 25-22, dropped a three-set match to host Big Spring 15-25, 25-21, 15-11, and bounced back to defeat Klondike 25-21, 25-17, 15-11.
Delaney Whitehead led MCA with 26 kills and seven aces. Kanon Whitehead recorded 29 assists, Grace Helzer collected 15 digs, Addison Weeks handed out 28 assists, and Kampbell Stephens contributed 20 kills alongside six blocks. Midland Classical travels to compete in the Denver City Tournament on Friday.
Stanton and Grady Results
Stanton opened its home schedule on Friday night with a straight-set sweep of Midland TLCA, winning 25-21, 25-18, 25-14. McKynlea Estrada posted 11 kills for the Lady Buffs (7-4), Reagan Beard notched 14 digs, Paige Gernentz added four blocks, and Cambree Bryan dished out seven assists. Stanton visits Grady on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, Grady finished fourth in the Silver Bracket at the Cavender Auto Classic, which concluded Saturday at Lubbock-Cooper High School in Woodrow. The Lady Wildcats (5-11) faced a demanding schedule against Class 2A-5A opponents, wrapping up the event with a 22-25, 25-9, 25-7 loss to Sonora. Emerie White earned all-tournament honors after accumulating 28 kills, 27 digs, and 13 blocks. Raylee O’Donnell added 37 digs, and Addie Peugh recorded 39 assists.
