The Battle for the ‘MomTok’ Crown
The social media feud between The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives stars Taylor Frankie Paul and Mikayla Matthews has boiled over, exposing raw fractures within the cast. The tension spiked after Paul used Instagram to launch a series of broadsides against her co-stars and the show’s production team. Matthews has now struck back, publicly dismantling Paul’s narrative on bullying and the contested origins of the “MomTok” phenomenon.
At the center of the storm is a title change. Paul recently updated her Instagram bio to declare herself the “Creator of MomTok,” a claim Matthews flatly rejects.
Matthews Rebuts Collective Success Narrative
Matthews took to Instagram to argue that the group’s digital success was never a solo act. “This show was pitched to us, by the way (me, Mayci [Neeley], Whitney [Leavitt], and Taylor), about stay-at-home moms providing for their families and, of course, ‘MomTok,’ which we all know was started by Miranda [Hope], Camille, AND Taylor,” Matthews wrote.

She pointedly included Camille Munday, an influencer absent from the Hulu series, as a foundational member of the collective. To Matthews, the attempt to claim singular authorship ignores the reality of their collaborative start.
Casting Claims and Professional Rivalry
The rift widened when Paul published screenshots of text messages suggesting she had been offered exclusive gigs—including a spot on Dancing With the Stars—only for those opportunities to be passed to her castmates after she turned them down.
Matthews dismissed the insinuation that the cast was merely a secondary option. She maintained that every participant underwent an individual interview process, selected specifically for the vulnerability they brought to the screen. “If they wanted a show about one person or the swinging drama, they would’ve done that,” Matthews added, noting the program’s roots in the group’s widely publicized swinging scandal.
Accusations of Digital Intimidation
Matthews did not stop at professional disputes; she leveled serious allegations regarding Paul’s conduct. She accused Paul of weaponizing her larger social media following to intimidate the rest of the cast.
“Throwing around the word ‘bully,’ but failing to acknowledge there has to be that power imbalance,” Matthews wrote. She alleged that Paul is manipulating the public narrative to position herself as the sole catalyst for the group’s fame, effectively casting her peers as irrelevant side players.
Uncertain Future for the Reality Stars
The real-world fallout is currently playing out in real-time, overshadowing questions about future filming. While Paul is currently taking a break from the production, the public exchange continues to escalate. For now, the cast remains locked in a digital standoff, fighting for control over the history of their professional and personal relationships.
