Carmen is one of the most iconic figures in the history of opera: beautiful, non-conformist and passionate, she embodies free and indomitable femininity. The Milan Ballet celebrates his legend through a powerful neoclassical reinterpretation that intertwines emotion, energy and technique.
With her overwhelming vitality, Carmen uses charm and personality to challenge every limit and live by her rules. Her loyalty to freedom and independence, however, will lead her to a tragic epilogue: her killing at the hands of Don José, a man incapable of accepting her refusal. A theme, unfortunately current, which the ballet forcefully denounces through the symbol of the red shoe, placed at the feet of the lifeless protagonist.
Between intense pas de deux, engaging choreography and choral dances by gypsies, soldiers and cigar makers, the production traces the story of the rebel gypsy. The strong moments stand out pathoslike the internal duel with Destiny, evoked by the symbols of the cards (love, betrayal, death) and the passionate love for Don José, who abandons all certainties for Carmen. Also unforgettable is the meeting with Escamillo, the bullfighter, in a crescendo of sensuality and rhythm.
The direction by Agnese Omodei, who also signs the choreography with Federico Veratti, the sets by Marco Pesta and the rich and stylized costumes blend harmoniously with the famous music by Georges Bizet, taken from the original opera, the Suites and the Arlésienne n. 2, to immerse the audience in an atmosphere of passion and intensity.
Faithful to Prosper Mérimée’s novel, this production meets the highest expectations, giving a modern but authentic Carmen.

The Milan Ballet announces an important change of role: Alessandro Orlando, Principal e Ballet Masterof the company, concludes his artistic activity at full speed as a dancer to permanently assume the role of Maître de Ballet. Orlando will not abandon the stage completely, but will return to the stage, reserving his performances for particular roles.
