Exploring MiMi’s Journey: From CATtRIEVER to Solo Artistry
South Korean artist MiMi has carved a unique path in the music industry, transitioning from her group CATtRIEVER to a bold solo career. In a candid interview, she shares insights into her creative process, personal growth, and future ambitions.
The Evolution of MiMi’s Career
MiMi’s journey began with her group CATtRIEVER, which she formed with her husband, Thunder. The duo’s music was deeply intertwined with their personal story, with tracks like “Sunflower,” “Ordinary Days,” and “Drive” symbolizing their wedding and honeymoon. However, the group is set to disband, paving the way for a new chapter as “Thunder & Mimi.”
“CATtRIEVER’s music was centered around our wedding,” MiMi explained. “But we’re now focusing on a new project that blends our individual styles without the wedding-centric concept.”
Solo Projects and Artistic Identity
MiMi’s solo work reflects her evolution as an artist. Her debut single, “Overcome,” marked her first solo effort after years in a group. Followed by “Sweetdreams, My Dear,” which she described as a “bridge” between her idol past and current artistic identity, her music continues to explore themes of love and personal growth.

“I wanted to showcase my distinct identity as ‘MiMi the artist,’ not just ‘MiMi the idol,'” she said. Her latest single, “Pop Pink Apple,” draws inspiration from the biblical “Song of Solomon,” reimagining the concept of knowledge as “love” through a vibrant, pop-infused lens.
Inspiration and Creative Process
MiMi credits her older sister as her initial inspiration, recalling how she would mimic her sibling’s performances. Her music blends trap-based R&B with K-pop sensibilities, creating a unique fusion that resonates with her audience.
