The project arrives on October 9 via PDU under the title Delightful Unpublished Surpluses. As producer and son Massimiliano Pani explained to journalists in Milan, the collection gathers rare pearls left out of past albums for artistic reasons rather than quality issues, alongside new recordings. This necklace was born because we said to ourselves: ‘Why keep pearls in a drawer?’

New album spans decades of diverse recordings
The tracklist spans decades of musical research, stretching from a 1970s track up to a March 2026 recording session. The album features diverse arrangements, ranging from lighthearted divertissements to French-language pieces like On my island. It sounds like an opera aria and has its own charm,
explained Pani Mazzini regarding the varied material. The project also includes a cover of Pino Daniele and Giorgia’s 2007 song Wind of Passion, recorded by Mina in 2026. This new single has a jazz-inflected, languid arrangement. Director Ferzan Ozpetek filmed a companion music video for the track starring Luca Argentero.
Physical copies feature unpublished archival images
Physical copies of the album function more like a photo book than a standard CD case. Mina and photographer Mauro Balletti selected twelve unpublished images from their archives for the accompanying booklet. Pani noted that the singer has spent decades subverting and playing with her visual persona, drawing comparisons to subsequent pop stars for her willingness to transform her image. Having retired from public live performances in 1978 and television appearances for 50 years—nearly five decades away from the stage—Mina continues to maintain a prolific recording output without following traditional tour cycles. Across her history, she tackled the repertoires of Lucio Battisti, Enzo Jannacci, Domenico Modugno, the Beatles, Frank Sinatra, and numerous others.
