Mincho Praznikov, a beloved and iconic figure in Bulgarian meteorology, has died at the age of 88, according to reports from Bulgarian news outlets. The news was initially shared by his colleague, Ivo Andreev, on Facebook.
A Career Dedicated to Forecasting
Born on February 9, 1938, in Dryanovo, Bulgaria, Praznikov dedicated his life to understanding and communicating weather patterns to the Bulgarian public. He graduated from the Faculty of Physics at Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski,” specializing in Physics and Meteorology.
Praznikov spent 22 years as a forecaster in the Air Force. He later worked at the National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology from 1986 to 2000, and subsequently joined the private meteorological forecasting company “TV-MET” in December 2000. Blitz.bg reports.

Praznikov’s family name has an interesting origin, stemming from a nickname given to his great-grandfather who frequently used church holidays as excuses for absences from school. His grandfather was a veteran of the Battle of Shipka, wounded twice during the conflict. Blitz.bg
