Minecraft World Theme Park to Open in London

Fans of the best-selling video game Minecraft will soon have a real-world destination to explore, as Minecraft World, a theme park dedicated to the game, is set to open less than 300 kilometers from Lille, France, at Chessington World of Adventures Resort in London. The announcement was made during Minecraft Live, an online community event, on Saturday, March 21, 2026.

Location and Scope

The novel park will be located at Chessington World of Adventures Resort, a 52-hectare amusement and animal park that already features a zoo, aquarium, and accommodations. Chessington is currently developing a Paw Patrol themed area, slated to open this spring. The planned surface area of Minecraft World has not yet been disclosed.

Authentic Minecraft Experience

Merlin Entertainment, the owner of Chessington and Legoland complexes, has partnered with Mojang, the publishing studio behind Minecraft (acquired by Microsoft), to ensure the attractions and decorations faithfully reflect the game’s universe. According to Angela Jobson of Merlin Entertainments, “We are absolutely thrilled to bring to life, for the first time ever in a theme park, the creativity, daring adventures and offbeat humor of Minecraft. Minecraft World will allow friends and families to play, explore and craft together on a truly grand scale. An authentic universe in which the global community of fans Minecraft will want to immerse themselves.”

Investment and Attractions

The project represents an investment of approximately €57 million, significantly less than the €484.5 million invested in Super Nintendo World Japan. Planned attractions include new roller coasters “globally,” interactive adventures, play areas, restaurants, and themed shops. Initial visuals showcase a restaurant decorated with the game’s iconic torches, a zombie-inhabited cavern accessible by wagon, and retail spaces featuring recognizable stony and mossy habitats.

Expanding the Minecraft Universe

Torfi Frans Ólafsson, creative director for Minecraft, stated that Minecraft World “represents an significant step in our desire to expand the universe of Minecraft… a place where one can literally step into the Overworld of Minecraft and live your own adventure with family or friends.” This expansion follows the release of a Minecraft-based film in 2025, starring Jack Black and Jason Momoa, which achieved fifth place at the global box office.
