No. 4 Mississippi State Dominates Austin Peay 16-3, Remains Undefeated

STARKVILLE, MS – No. 4 Mississippi State continued its impressive start to the 2026 season with a decisive 16-3 run-rule victory over Austin Peay on Tuesday afternoon at Dudy Noble Field. The Diamond Dawgs (9-0) showcased a powerful offensive display, recording 16 hits and scoring in five of their six at-bats before a crowd of 9,337 fans.

Bulldogs Explode Offensively

After Austin Peay (4-4) took an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning, Mississippi State quickly responded. The Bulldogs tied the game in the second and then erupted for five runs in the third to seize control. They continued to add to their lead with two runs in the fourth, four in the fifth, and three in the sixth, ultimately triggering the 10-run rule.

Reese and Teel Lead the Attack

Ace Reese spearheaded the offensive onslaught, going 3-for-5 with a double, a home run, and four RBIs. Aidan Teel also made a significant impact, launching his first home run of the season – a grand slam – in the third inning. James Nunnallee contributed a three-run homer in the fifth, even as Bryce Chance added a double, a single, and two RBIs. Reed Stallman delivered a pinch-hit double that plated two more runs.

Pitching Staff Shines

Mississippi State utilized a total of seven pitchers to limit Austin Peay to just four hits. Chris Billingsley (1-0) earned the win with 1 1/3 innings of scoreless relief. Austin Peay struck out 10 times and managed only four singles.

Looking Ahead

Mississippi State will now embark on its first road trip of the season, heading to Arlington, Texas, to participate in the Amegy Bank College Baseball Classic at Globe Life Field. The Bulldogs are scheduled to face Arizona State on Friday at 11 a.m., Virginia Tech on Saturday at 3 p.m., and No. 1 UCLA on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. All three games will be streamed on FloCollege.
