Highlandville, MO – Richard Dean Bird, 45, is in custody following a manhunt for the suspect accused of fatally shooting a Christian County deputy on Monday afternoon. The Missouri State Highway Patrol confirmed Bird’s apprehension early Tuesday morning.

The shooting occurred shortly before 4 p.m. On Monday near Highlandville, Missouri. The Christian County deputy was shot during a traffic stop and later died from their injuries. A Blue Alert was issued, describing Bird as a bald white male with brown eyes, approximately 5 feet 6 inches tall and weighing around 145 pounds.

The suspect vehicle was initially identified as a white 2001 Chevrolet Silverado extended cab pickup truck with Missouri license plate 9MGX36. Fox News reported the truck was seen traveling southbound on U.S. Route 160 from Route HH in Christian County. The Stone County Sheriff’s Office later confirmed the truck had been located.
