Porto is on the verge of securing striker Paul Onuachu on loan from Ligue 1 club Nice, pending completion of medical examinations. The 26-year-old Nigerian international arrived in Porto on Thursday afternoon adn was present at the Estádio do Dragão to witness Porto’s 3-1 victory over Rangers.
Coach Francesco Farioli, who previously managed Onuachu during the 2023/24 season at Nice where the player scored 11 goals in 32 appearances, confirmed the imminent transfer. The loan deal is expected to last until the end of the current season, with a purchase option of €8 million.
Should Porto exercise the purchase option, Nice will retain a 10% stake in any future transfer profit. Additionally, Porto could be obligated to pay Nice up to €250,000 contingent upon the fulfillment of specific performance-based objectives.
The acquisition of Onuachu is expected to bolster Porto’s attacking options as they compete in both domestic and European competitions. The club will be hoping the Nigerian forward can replicate the form he showed under Farioli at Nice.
