26th Provincial Festival of the Missionary Calf to Showcase Livestock and Tradition in Monte Carlo
Monte Carlo, Misiones Province, Argentina, is preparing to host the 26th Provincial Festival of the Missionary Calf from March 27 to 29. The event, held on the grounds of the Alto Paraná Livestock Association along National Route 12, is a significant gathering for livestock producers, buyers, and the general public in northern Misiones.
A Blend of Commerce, Exhibition, and Family Entertainment
The festival centers around the exhibition and commercialization of livestock, but has expanded over the years to include activities designed to attract families. Camilo Sosa, secretary of the Alto Paraná Livestock Association, stated that the livestock farm will be open for three days, offering a combination of productive exhibitions and recreational activities as reported by LT17 Radio Province of Misiones.
Evening Entertainment and Equestrian Displays
Friday and Saturday evenings will feature musical performances, while Saturday afternoon will showcase equestrian activities, including dressage demonstrations and rein tests. Sosa anticipates a high turnout, both for commercial transactions and for visitors seeking a diverse experience.
Livestock Exhibition and Auction Preparations
Producers, buyers, and visitors will be able to tour the corrals and observe the animals participating in the auction starting Saturday at noon. The organization expects between 700 and 1,000 animals, primarily bovines, representing the genetic improvements made by local producers. The exhibition will also include smaller animals like pigs, birds, and llamas.
The Auction: A Key Indicator for Market Prices
The traditional estate auction on Sunday is a central event, playing a crucial role in the commercial movement of the livestock sector and influencing price formation within the province. Sosa explained that Monte Carlo’s auction historically serves as a reference point for the region, providing producers with a basis for decision-making .
Transparent Pricing Through Competitive Bidding
In a market experiencing rising values, the auction provides a transparent method for determining market value. “The auction is the most transparent way to sell. When there are several buyers bidding on the animals, the price that arises truly reflects the market value,” Sosa stated.
Traditional Barbecue and Recent Meat Offerings
Sunday’s event will also feature a traditional barbecue, with approximately 500 kilos of beef and pork prepared for attendees. Organizers are also planning a tasting of buffalo meat, a growing production in the region, aiming to increase its consumption.
Positive Outlook for the Livestock Sector
Sosa highlighted encouraging signs for the livestock sector, with animal prices reaching levels not seen in several years. While acknowledging the impact of rising production costs and new challenges like electronic traceability systems, the overall outlook remains positive.
A Celebration of Tradition and Productivity
The Provincial Missionary Calf Festival will once again unite the livestock community and the broader community in Monte Carlo, celebrating a productive tradition that is integral to the region’s identity.
