Two Moroccan women and their three children were abandoned at a bus station in Cornélio Procópio, Paraná, after falling victim to a scheme promising employment, housing, and migration assistance. The rescue by Brazilian authorities has exposed a case of alleged fraud and assault orchestrated by a Moroccan national, according to reports from the Civil Police of Paraná.
The 7,000 Real Extortion
The victims, aged 27 and 29, arrived in Brazil separately. They had both accepted offers from the suspect, who Adriano Diogo, chief of the civil police, says allegedly extorted approximately 7,000 Brazilian reais—roughly 12,900 Moroccan dirhams—from the women. Following the theft, the suspect forcibly removed them from their residence.
The testimonies were consistent. During separate interviews conducted with a translator, both women provided matching accounts of the events. The suspect denies the allegations, claiming he was merely attempting to help the women. Police, however, indicate he faces potential charges for aggravated fraud, assault, and damage to property.
Federal Probe Into Migration Networks
The case has escalated beyond local criminal charges. Evidence suggests the existence of an irregular migration network, prompting the Federal Police of Brazil to launch a broader investigation. Authorities are now working to determine if the suspect is part of an organized ring dedicated to the illegal entry and exploitation of migrants.
Shelter for Three Children
The women and their children—aged one, three, and seven—are currently in a municipal shelter. They are receiving food, clothing, and psychosocial support. As legal proceedings and the investigation progress, officials noted that the Moroccan embassy in Brazil may be contacted.
