Morocco’s Industrial Growth in 2025: A Sectoral Analysis
Morocco’s industrial sector demonstrated resilience and growth in 2025, with the manufacturing production index – excluding petroleum refining – increasing by 4% in the fourth quarter compared to the same period in 2024. This positive trend, as reported by the High Commission for Planning (HCP), highlights a strengthening industrial base despite challenges in certain sectors.
Key Drivers of Growth
The expansion was largely propelled by strong performances in several key branches of manufacturing. Pharmaceutical manufacturing led the way with a substantial growth rate of 28.9% CEIC Data. Other transport equipment manufacturing followed closely with a 37.1% increase, and fabricated metal products experienced a 14.5% rise. Food processing industries also contributed significantly, growing by 9.9%, while non-metallic mineral products and tobacco products saw increases of 4.8% and 4.7%, respectively.
Sectoral Variations
While the overall picture is positive, growth was not uniform across all sectors. The automotive industry experienced a contraction of 6.2%, and clothing manufacturing declined by 4.7%. Production of computers, electronic, and optical equipment decreased by 12.6%, with electrical equipment declining by 2.3% and miscellaneous manufacturing retreating by 15.4% – reflecting ongoing pressures in export-oriented industrial segments North Africa Post.
Extractive Industries and Energy Production
Extractive industries saw an overall decline of 4.4%, primarily due to a 4.6% drop in miscellaneous mining output. This was partially offset by a 0.7% increase in metallic ore production. In contrast, electrical energy generation expanded by 2.8%.
Full Year Performance
For the full year 2025, the HCP data indicates a broadly positive trend. Extractive industries grew by 7%, manufacturing output (excluding petroleum refining) advanced by 4.1%, and electricity production rose by 6.3% Haut Commissariat au Plan. These figures suggest that Morocco’s industrial base is gradually strengthening, despite sectoral unevenness and persistent headwinds in the automotive and electronics manufacturing sectors.
Economic Indicators
As of early March 2026, Morocco’s key economic indicators, as reported by the HCP, include a population of 36,828,330 with a growth rate of +4.0%, a unemployment rate of 13.3%, and an inflation rate of 0.4% Haut Commissariat au Plan.
