Mosaic Theater Announces Bold 2026/27 Season with World Premieres and Musical Journey
Continuing its mission of producing bold, culturally diverse and conversation-shaping theater, Mosaic Theater Company has announced the first productions of its 2026/27 season. The full slate will be the company’s largest subscription season since the COVID-19 pandemic.
The season features two world premieres: 7th Street Echo, a celebration of DC’s music and culture by critically-acclaimed playwright Paige Hernandez; and Natural History, a caper comedy from playwright Collin Van Son about the importance of fighting for our history. Also included is Somewhere Over the Border by Brian Quijada, which makes its DC premiere this fall.
Season Highlights
Somewhere Over the Border, directed by Raymond O. Caldwell, will open the season from September 10 – October 4, 2026. Inspired by the true story of Brian Quijada’s mother’s immigration, the musical blends cumbia, Mexican mariachi boleros, hip hop and more. The play reimagines The Wizard of Oz through the lens of the immigrant experience.
Natural History, directed by Chelsea Radigan, will run from January 21 – February 7, 2027. This world premiere from Collin Van Son is a darkly comedic exploration of American mythology, environmentalism, and the preservation of history.
Concluding the announced programming is 7th Street Echo, directed by Reginald L. Douglas, running from March 25 – April 18, 2027. This world premiere by Paige Hernandez celebrates DC’s music and culture, featuring live Go-Go music and spoken word.

Commitment to Modern Work and Community Engagement
Mosaic will also provide development support for new works by Michelle Banks and A. Rey Pamatmat. In partnership with New Harmony Project, Mosaic will support the development of The People v. Marion Barry, a new musical by Psalmayene 24 and Kokayi, the team behind Young John Lewis: Prodigy of Protest.
The theater’s Reflection Series will continue, offering community and audience activities in collaboration with over 40 partners across all eight wards of DC. Mosaic’s Intergenerational Matinees and Youth Playwriting Contest will also continue to engage diverse audiences and nurture the next generation of playwrights.
