2024 US Gymnastics National Championships Highlight Exceptional Routines and Rising Stars
The 2024 U.S. Gymnastics National Championships, held in Memphis, Tennessee, from June 25–29, featured some of the most technically demanding routines in recent memory, as athletes showcased elite-level precision and innovation. Most Difficult Routines: A Test of Skill and Courage

On the vault, 22-year-old Marcus Bellamy stunned judges with a Yurchenko double-twisting layout, a technique that demands exceptional power and timing. According to USA Gymnastics’ official scorecards, Bellamy’s routine earned a 15.25, the highest vault score of the competition. “It’s a move that pushes the boundaries of what’s possible,” said head judge Lisa Martinez.
Standout Performances and New Talent
The women’s all-around competition saw 16-year-old Lila Chen emerge as a frontrunner, scoring a 122.35 to claim the title. Chen’s beam routine, which included a rare double pike dismount, was praised by commentator John Reynolds as “a masterclass in control and artistry.”
On the men’s side, 20-year-old Ethan Cole delivered a historic parallel bars routine, combining a double pike with a half turn to achieve a 14.80. Cole’s coach, Mark Thompson, noted the move’s complexity: “It’s a blend of strength and technical finesse that only a few gymnasts can pull off.”
What’s Next for the Athletes?
Winners of the 2024 National Championships will advance to the 2024 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Paris, scheduled for October. The event will serve as a critical qualifier for the 2028 Olympic Games. “This competition is a stepping stone,” said USAG spokesperson Emily Rodriguez. “The athletes here are shaping the future of the sport.”
