The manager pointed out his team has only accumulated roughly a month and a half of actual training time when excluding pre-season and international breaks. Comparing a team like this with another that has more years of existence doesn’t seem fair to me, Mourinho stated, adding that he willingly absorbs criticism when results falter while deflecting excessive praise onto his players.

Respect for Opponents and Friction Over Match Officials

Mourinho reserved praise for Barcelona manager Hansi Flick and young forward Lamine Yamal, though he confirmed his tactical approach will not bend to accommodate any single opponent. One thing is to respect, another is to change plans, structures, he noted. While player Fermín expressed frustration over constant debates surrounding officials, Mourinho countered by telling reporters that his side grows weary of other ongoing issues, while maintaining his personal stance that I never get bothered by the referee’s name.
