Ms. Rachel Donates $3,000 After Viral TikTok Video at Darien Library Storytime

Popular children’s educator and YouTuber Ms. Rachel has donated $3,000 to a fundraiser for a 17-month-old Black toddler whose parents claim he was ignored by a library employee during an October event, CT Insider reported. The contribution follows a viral TikTok video shared on Oct. 6 that captured more than 4 million views and 18,000 comments, depicting a puppeteer interacting with multiple children at Darien Commons while the toddler stood nearby with his family.

Micah Whitaker, the father of the child, stated in an interview that the employee ignored his family for roughly five to 10 minutes before he started recording the 2½-minute video. In response to the footage, Darien Library Director Kiera Parrott told CT Insider that the nonprofit organization has placed the employee on leave and hired an outside firm to conduct an investigation.

GoFundMe Campaign Aims for Disney World Trip

Whitaker established a GoFundMe campaign with a goal of $6,000 to help turn the incident into a positive memory for his son. The fundraiser’s description states the family hopes to use the contributions to take the toddler to Disney World so he can experience joy and be reminded that one hurtful experience does not define him. As of the latest updates, the campaign has raised $3,997 across 54 individual donations.

Library Puts Worker on Leave After Parents Say Black Toddler Was Ignored

Before making her financial contribution, the creator behind Ms. Rachel—whose real name is Rachel Accurso—commented publicly on a follow-up video posted by Whitaker and the child’s mother, Jae-Lin Reid. Accurso wrote that she was sorry about the racism the child experienced and expressed a desire to meet the family so the toddler could play with all of our puppets. Whitaker later confirmed on social media that he has been in contact with the YouTuber regarding a future collaboration.
