Kaylin Burton’s path to a career in medicine was deeply influenced by her upbringing in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. Witnessing the profound impact her mother, a nurse practitioner, had on the veteran community – serving as the sole primary care provider for the Veterans affairs office for a decade – instilled in Burton a strong sense of purpose and gratitude.
From a young age, Burton observed firsthand the expressions of thanks directed towards her mother, solidifying her understanding of the vital role healthcare professionals play in people’s lives. This familial connection to medicine was further strengthened by her older brother’s pursuit of medical education at Michigan State University’s medical school.
Burton’s academic journey reflected this early exposure. She initially focused on pre-med studies and gained practical experience as a nurse aide at a care facility located near Sault ste. Marie, providing her with valuable insights into patient care and the healthcare system. This hands-on experience complemented her academic pursuits and reinforced her commitment to a future in the medical field.
